As said before the free running is never affected by barricades, but sound does not travel through buildings, so the zombie Mrhing outside will never be herd inside. Since this happened before the January 19th game update you would not have be notified of a survivor dieing of an infection or a zombie reanimating as a human after getting revived so there are a few cases were Zombies could seem to appear or disappear such as:

 The barricades were tore down in the night 1 zombie got in mrhed and was revived by someone and rebuilt the barricades
or
A survivor bitten with an infected bite and happen to die in you safe house and rose as a zombie, mrhed then tore down the barricades and walked outside in order to find a revive point. Later someone passing through saw the building you were in had no barricades and build some before moving on.
