I just recently started a new character in Urban Dead as a survivor, and that is what I would like to play as. I have two problems though. One is that I have to spend about 30 action points just trying to find a place that isn't heavily barricaded to stay in (most buildings are taken). What should I do to find safe places to hide quickly?

Also, I don't know where I can get first aid to restore hitpoints. I know they don't regenerate.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm new just like you, but I've picked up a couple of tips. First, check out the Wiki. There are some guides there (http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Guides) with some helpful noob tips.

Also on the Wiki is a set of maps for the different suburbs (http://wiki.urbandead.com/index.php/Suburb). Some suburbs will have a list of which buildings are barricaded and by how much. A lot of the communities have barricade plans to make things easier for survivors where strategic buildings are built up just enough to keep zombies out, but not people.

First aid kits are (so far as I know) the common way to heal up. You can find them in malls and hospitals, but those are either barricaded too high for starting out characters or are infested with zombies. What I've been doing is laying low, taking a few potshots at zombies and reading books to increase XP. I'm saving up for the Freerunning skill so I can get into a mall and scavenge some first aid kits and decent weapons.

So far, other players have been really generous with their heals and revives, which is great, because without a little help from our friends, being a newbie civilian survivor is pretty tough....Good luck.

If the barricade level is at Very Strongly Barricaded (which is as high as most people will keep it for newbies' sake), then you can get in without Free Running, but I would suggest getting Free Running anyway, just in case you happen across an Extremely Heavily Barricaded building and you don't have enough APs to keep searching for a place to stay.
On the topic of FAKs, I agree with Marcus. Get Free Running (which helps in both of your situations), and find a hospital with lights on. Lights are a good indicator that the building's residents are alive. Hospitals have the 3rd highest chance of finding FAKs, right behind drugstores (in malls) and infirmaries (in forts), but since there are only 2 forts in Malton, and since malls are few and far between, hospitals are your best bet. Good luck.
